Bad timing

Typically, the RIBA contrived to hold its Gold Medal event at the Banqueting House on the same evening as the BCIA awards night, thereby suggesting that architects are a bunch of bow ties with little to contribute to the wider industry. Why do they do it?

Astragal contrived to attend both events, and enjoyed both. I see that Sir Stuart Lipton has agreed to chair the BCIA awards next year, as a prominent client and of course as chairman of CABE.He has a hard act to follow: Sir Andrew Turnbull, permanent secretary to the Treasury. Lipton featured in the Channel 4 list of 300 people of influence in Britain.

Also included were Lord Rogers and Lord Foster, described by the sad and ignorant Observer as 'Lord Richard Rogers' and 'Lord Norman Foster'. No wonder its editor failed to make the list.
