Ashmolean to consider five for £10 million improvement

  • Comment

Oxford University is to choose around five firms for a design shortlist for work to the Ashmolean Museum.

The project will involve refurbishment and new build for academic and gallery space for the museum, which shows art and archaeology. Robert Adam of Winchester Design has carried out an initial feasibility study for the extra work and will be entering the competition. A winner will be selected by competitive interview.

The university said the feasibility study was nearing completion and would look at how much accommodation could be fitted on to a tight site north of the museum, and at costs. The project is expected to be around £10 million and involve wide consultation with the university.

The original 10 August deadline is to be extend to 4 September. Further details from the University Surveyor's Office, tel: 01865 278750.
