The Arts Lottery Fund has given the go-ahead for development work on Herzog and de Meuron's Laban Centre at Deptford Creekside and John McAslan and Partners' redevelopment of Modernist icon the De La Warr Pavilion.

In its latest round of awards announced this week, the council granted a stage two grant of £557,634 for the Laban Centre, which will include a 300-seat theatre, library and multimedia centre, dance and health facility and outdoor amphitheatre and garden. Completion of the £1.2 million building is subject to a further bid for stage 3 funding next year.

It also awarded £120,000 towards the £23.2 million redevelopment of the Grade I De La Warr Pavilion at Bexhill, £50,000 of feasibility money for a new combined art gallery and craft centre for Middlesbrough, and up to £1.5 million to Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Wakefield for planning and design development work.
