Arts Council's £17m gives hope to c/Plex development

  • Comment

The group behind the c/Plex project in West Bromwich received £17.4 million from the Arts Council last week - a figure close enough to the £21 million originally promised for the project to go ahead, the AJ has learned.

The funding gives the organisers the green light to raise the rest of the funding, which is set to come from a range of groups including BT, Sony and Sandwell Metropolitan Council. The news follows fears that the Arts Council was considering more draconian cuts to the Alsop-designed project (AJ 19.7.01). The budget for the building is £45 million.
