Arsenal goes for HOK

  • Comment

HOK + lobb, part of the new Wembley stadium design team, is to design Arsenal's new 60,000-seater home.

The appointment came at the end of last month and the plans are set to be boosted this week as Islington council prepares to start a public consultation process on the new stadium. The club is considering a 16ha site at Ashburton Grove, less than 1km from its existing home ground at Highbury in north London.

Proposals for the future use of Highbury, whose east stand is Grade II- listed, will follow inFebruary.

But the design for Leicester City Football Club's new 40,000-seat stadium by the Miller Partnership at Bede Island South was dumped following a boardroom shake-up and difficulties in purchasing land for the development.

The Leicester board will now consider a refurbishment of its existing ground at Filbert Street as well as alternative sites for a new stadium, said club finance director, Steve Kind.
