arp Lorimer and Associates has beaten off challenges from 39 architects to win a competition to design a high-density housing scheme in Ballymun, near the airport in Dublin. arp Lorimer's 172-unit scheme for the partial regeneration of the high rise estate consists of two eight-storey apartment blocks providing a 'sentinel' gateway to the complex and a mixture of student bedsits and family housing integrated with existing terraces. The £8.7 million project is part of a MacCormac Jamieson Prichard masterplan for the 20,000-inhabitant estate. The other shortlisted architects were Julian Wickham Architect, O'Mahony Pike Architects, Gardiner Architects and Howley Harrington Architects.
