'Ariba' for the RIBA as team explores potential in Mexico

  • Comment

A RIBA delegation of four flew to Mexico last week to make a 'pre-exploratory' analysis of three schools of architecture it might decide to validate.

Council members Marina Adams, Christopher Cross, Robert Hutson and Abigail Scott Paul flew out last Friday on a week-long trip.

They will stage meetings with the schools to see if an exploratory trip will take place before validation is achieved in a number of years. The visit is RIBA's first to Mexico and follows soon after a reciprocal agreement was signed with the UK.

The RIBA was invited by the Instituto Tecnologias y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). It was due to meet staff and students from campuses in Mexico City, Queretaro and Monterrey, as well as meeting Sara Topelson, the federal government's director of architecture.
