Architecture PLB's Portsmouth ‘blade’ goes on hold

  • Comment

Architecture PLB’s £30 million ‘blade’ student accommodation skyscraper for the University of Portsmouth has stalled

The 33-storey scheme hit the buffers after developer and contractor Watkins Jones pulled out of the project.

The university is now on the hunt for a new developer for the 100 metre-tall scheme which was approved by Portsmouth City Council last year.

Vice-Chancellor John Craven said: ‘Ongoing discussions mean the university is still unable to provide any specific additional information.

‘It remains committed to the scheme both strategically and financially and hopes to be in a position to progress it shortly.’

The project features 600 student bedsits, seminar rooms and a 300-seat lecture theatre and was expected to complete in 2013.
