The AJ’s sister publication, the Architectural Review, has relaunched with its first redesign for over 20 years.
The 113-year-old monthly magazine will also revamp its content, including more current-affairs writing and cultural commentary, as well as the best international architecture.
The AR was redesigned by Violetta Boxill of London graphic-design consultancy Alexander Boxill, in collaboration with new art director Cecilia Lindgren. The new editorial team includes Kieran Long (editor-in-chief of the AJ and the AR), managing editor Catherine Slessor and assistant editor Rob Gregory.
Long said: ‘This team shares many of the timeless interests and values that the AR represents (context, the city, criticality) and we have many of our own. This has defined our choices on everything from the typography to the buildings we publish.’
The new AR logo is a redrawn and updated version of a logo by legendary AR art director Bill Slack, used in the 1960s and ’70s.
