Architect receives ARB slap on wrist

A Derbyshire architect has been reprimanded after being found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct by the ARB’s Professional Conduct Committee (PCC)

It was alleged that Paul Dinsdale, of Price Dinsdale Associates, Buxton, had acted improperly following the liquidation of Paul Dinsdale Associates.

Dinsdale admitted falsely invoicing a client through the wrong corporate entity, Price Dinsdale Associates. He explained that he is now aware of the proper procedure for dealing with such matters when a company is in liquidation

It was also alleged that Dinsdale sent a threatening letter to one client about another in order to secure payment for outstanding fees. The letter included the threat of legal action against the innocent relative of a non-paying debtor.

Dinsdale admitted that his letter was robust in tone but it was his view that the former client was a thief who had stolen money from his company.

The committee found the facts proven in relation to the invoice but, after considering his mitigation as to the administrative nature of the failing, concluded that Dinsdale’s conduct did not amount to unacceptable professional conduct or serious professional incompetence.

The committee concluded that Dinsdale’s conduct with regard to the letter fell short of the standards of conduct required of a registered person, in that he acted in a manner which was discreditable to the profession.

His client felt ‘intimidated and threatened’ said PCC chairwoman Alexandra Marks in her summing up. The committee found Dinsdale guilty of unacceptable professional conduct and issued him with a reprimand.
