ARB elects Gibb as vice-chair

The Architects Registration Boards (ARB) has announced that Gordon Gibb will serve as its vice-chairman - beating ARB Reform Group’s George Oldham

Speaking after the election, Gibb said: ‘I am delighted the Board has given me the honour of serving as its vice chair. I strongly believe in the validity of ARB’s role – in addition to its consumer focus, it also supports architects, engages effectively with its stakeholders at an operational level, and it leads the way in the resolution of the challenges set by the European Directives.

‘I fully support the Chair’s initiatives to determine a way forward for the Board, and look forward to working with her and with my board colleagues to ensure that our activities are promoted intelligently and confidently.’

The board’s 15 members – eight lay members appointed by the Privy Council, and seven architect members elected by the profession – were balloted yesterday.

Gibb’s tenure will last until February 2010.
