ARB elections: Brennan re-elected to ARB Board

  • Comment

Ruth Brennan has been re-elected to the ARB board after resigning from her seat on the committee last month

The ARB elections results announced today show only three ARB Reform Group members – Ruth Brennan, Hans G. Eisner and Andrew Mortimer – have been elected to sit on the board for the next three years.

The seven elected candidates are:

John Assael
Ruth Brennan
Hans G. Eisner
Andrew Mortimer
Susan Ware
Alex Wright
Richard Parnaby

The disappointing result for the Reform Group follows the RIBA’s surprise decision to back its own four candidates for the election.

Successful candidates include RIBA-endorsed Jon Assael and Susan Ware, and University of West England architecture professor Richard Parnaby and Alex Wright.

ARB chair Beatrice Fraenkel said: ‘Congratulations to all of those who have been successfully elected to the Board. I look forward to welcoming our colleagues to the Board, starting with an induction day in April.  The induction day provides our newly-elected members with an introduction to the Board’s work as they begin to contribute to the delivery of our statutory role.

‘As a Board, we are acutely aware that we have a duty to ensure the consistently high standards of corporate governance that are expected of a public body and, as a Board, we will work together in promoting a culture that embraces diversity and honours our governance responsibilities in carrying forward the important work that we are charged with delivering.’

A total 4,637 architects voted in the election representing a 13.7 per cent turnout. The turnout was 15 per cent in 2009 and 23 per cent in 2006.

Last month the ARB board accepted the resignations of Reform Group members George Oldham and Ruth Brennan who mistakenly sent private emails to the AJ that included an attack on RIBA president Angela Brady.
