The ARB is set to increase the health and safety aspect of architectural education as a way of intensifying awareness of the issue. The move comes in the light of threats from the Health and Safety Executive that the profession could be forced to take the issue more seriously (AJ 4.7.02).
the ARB's head of education, Jon Levett, said he is increasingly aware of the importance of the issue. 'Health and safety was important in the last review of the criteria, ' he explained. 'We will look to put more emphasis on the issue in the next review as well.'
However, the heads of schools organisation SCHOSA warned the ARB to be careful and not push changes without assessing the already full curriculum.
