Appalled by highly offensive cartoon

LETTERS

I was appalled by the Hellman cartoon depicting a mosque as a plane heading towards the World Trade Center with the caption 'Religious Wars?' underneath (AJ 20.09.01). I found it highly offensive, and it just demonstrates the ignorant and culturally arrogant behaviour of the person who drew it and also of the editorial staff responsible for publishing it.

This is a slander not just to me but to over a billion peaceloving Muslims around the world who are appalled and shocked at the terrible events that took place in New York.

It is a shame that the AJ has fallen prey to such propaganda, which is being whipped up by the national newspapers and the media. Muslims in architecture and other professions already face enough prejudice in the work place and then we see it apparent in the AJ.

I cannot believe that this was overlooked on your part. The damage is done, and no apology will be enough to stop the incitement caused.
