Has Will Alsop ever been to Ladonia (Standardisation and neglect are society's new vandalism, AJ 6.9.01)? It is certainly not visible from Business Class seat 5c on BA flight 572.
He forgot to mention that Ladonia is a barren pile of rocks, 'populated' by a motley medley of Tolkienian twits. If you want a good belly laugh, visit www.
ladonia. net and form your own opinion.
Interestingly, Will made no mention of the Pictish Free State in the Pictland of Alba, established back in 1977 (see www.
pictphd. demon. co. uk). This may be merely down to ignorance (Will is clearly not underendowed in this department), it could be a lack of appreciation of the Pictish vernacular or, more disturbingly, it could be indicative of more deep-rooted Celtophobic tendencies.
But, no matter, let me get to my point: in his pompous, bullin-a-china-shop and tediously metaphoric style, Will talks about the vandalism of 'the unusual, the innovative, the interesting and the creative'.
Goddamnit, Will himself is guilty of a much more pernicious form of vandalism: Will is vandalising my sanity!
Incidentally, Pictland also has its own national anthem - it is simply the sound of a 5cwt Lochaber axe smoothly cleaving the vacuous cranium of a pretentiousà argh!
