An exhibition on the architecture of Sir John Soane

  • Comment

An exhibition on the architecture of Sir John Soane opens at London's Royal Academy on 11 September. In an installation designed by Piers Gough, it will focus on 20 of Soane's designs to demonstrate 'the timeless qualities of his style'. Above left: portrait of Soane by C W Hunneman, 1776. Above right: unbuilt designs in J M Gandy's Architectural Fancies and Dreams in the Evening of Life, 1820. Pride of place goes to Soane's Bank of England, with exhibits that include a new model of the whole complex, a computer walk-through, and F R Yerbury's photographs taken just before the building was demolished in the 1920s.
