Amazing photos: Heatherwick's Shanghai pavilion completes

Stunning images show Thomas Heatherwick’s £25 million ‘Seed Cathedral’ complete on time for the 2010 Shanghai Expo

The 18m-tall British pavilion is engineered by Adams Kara Taylor. It has 60,000 spikes, each 7.4m long and containing a seed from Kew Gardens’ Millennium Seed Bank.

Heatherwick said: ‘It has been a tremendous achievement of the team to deliver such a complex structure.

‘I am excited that the Seed Cathedral is now complete and I look forward to the millions of visitors to the Expo enjoying the space.’

Heatherwick beat Avery Associates, Draw Architects, John McAslan and Partners, Marks Barfield, and Zaha Hadid Architects to win the design competition for the structure.
