[First look] Amanda Levete Architects has revealed this spiralling sculpture for the entrance to the V&A Museum in West London
The scheme for the museum’s ‘Grand Entrance’ features a ‘majestic three-dimensional latticework spiral made from red oak’ according to festival organisers.
Dubbed ‘Timber Wave’, the sculpture has been supported by the American Hardwood Export Council while its lighting scheme has been devised by SEAM Design.
The London Design Festival takes place from 17 to 25 September.
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said: ‘London is a buzzing marketplace, not just for financial deals, but for astonishing creativity.
‘This will be exemplified by the London Design Festival in 2011, where fresh ideas and innovation will be traded and exchanged. With work by talented people from across the globe, it will show to brilliant effect why London is the design capital of the world.’
