A&M scoops sensitive Bristol Cathedral visitor centre job

Allies & Morrison has won the competition to design a £3 million visitor centre for Bristol Cathedral. The architect beat shortlisted practices David Chipperfield and Richard Griffiths Architects in a competitive interview for the project, to be built on the sensitive site immediately to the south west of the west front of the 1542 building.MacCormac Jamieson Prichard withdrew from the running. The dean and chapter of the cathedral was assisted in the competition by consultant Francis Golding. An exhibition of A&M's recent work, including details of its approach to the new commission, will take place at the Bristol Architecture Centre from 25 September.
