Alsop’s Palestra building pioneers hydrogen fuel cells

  • Comment

The UK’s largest indoor hydrogen fuel cell has been installed at Will Alsop’s Palestra building in Southwark, London

The £2.4 million combined-heat-and-power plant will cut carbon emissions by 40 per cent and save £90,000 annually.

Occupier Transport for London commissioned Alsop to oversee the fitting of the power plant.

The award-winning office building previously had 14 wind turbines on the roof but in late 2006 they were removed after ‘component failure’. Two of the original turbines have now been replaced.
