Will Alsop’s latest practice All Design and Foster + Partners have both set up new outposts in China

After recently opening its Canadian studio, Alsop’s All Design has officially unveiled its newest studio in Chongqing, central China - the fast growing city which was the site of a major masterplanning project designed by Alsop while at previous practice RMJM.

Meanwhile Foster and Partners has chosen Shanghai, the country’s largest city, for its latest Chinese venture.

The new studio is Foster’s third office inside China. A spokesman said ‘it will establish a dynamic presence, building on relationships with local partners’. The 15 man studio is housed inside the Jiushi building in Zhong Shan Nan Road – a tower designed by the practice and the first project to be completed a British firm of architects in China when it opened in 2001 (pictured above).

Foster’s other offices inside China are in Beijing and Hong Kong. The new Shanghai office is currently working on a collaboration with Thomas Heatherwick and a new headquarters for CITIC Bank (pictured below).
