All-night stand

As the contractors start work on the World Squares for All project in London's Trafalgar Square, one piece of work has predated them. This is the installation of the Butterfly Urinal, intended to keep the square cleaner at night and to stop the deterioration of stone on some buildings that was resulting from urine attack. The unit, which was developed specially for Westminster council by Danfo, offers 'partial enclosure'. It was used by 1,003 people on the first six nights (it is open between 7pm and 8am), and had a grand opening with Abba tribute band Bj÷rn Again singing Waterloo. You couldn't make it up.
