Alan Brookes has retired from his practice Brookes Stacey Randall at the age of 59 to concentrate on teaching and research.
Brookes was recently made a professor at Oxford Brookes university, where he has taught for 10 years. 'This is an opportunity to do more things which are interesting,' he said. 'Running a practice is pretty demanding.' In the past year, his partners had tended to concentrate on high-quality conversion projects, whereas 'my interest truly lies with larger-scale projects'. He will collaborate occasionally with the practice, which is not expected to change its name, and with structural engineer Atelier One.
