28 employed architects, 43% female architects, =99th position in 2014
Rising 11 places, Edinburgh and Glasgow-based Comprehensive Design Architects (CDA) has had a successful year reaping new work across the UK without having to open more offices. Key recent completions include an 11,000m² overhaul of Hopkins Architects’ 2 New Square in Middlesex; a residential-led regeneration of Edinburgh’s former Distillers Company headquarters and the redevelopment and expansion of listed buildings at nearby 10-15 Princes Street. Looking ahead, the studio is keen to improve market share and spread within its core office, retail, leisure, residential and industrial sectors. The greatest challenge for 2015, says director Mark Allan, will be ‘balancing resources and workload in an environment where the programmes for major projects are fluid’.
