33 employed architects, 42% female architects, =76th position in 2014
Another solid year for the 61-strong Edinburgh-based practice as it continues its steady climb up the table. Its major focus has been the construction of the whopping £220 million City of Glasgow College – a two campus-project in the city centre delivered for contractor Sir Robert McAlpine with Michael Laird Architects. At its peak, the scheme demanded 16 architects based on site. The first phase, next to the river, completes this summer. The challenge for the year ahead, says the self-proclaimed ‘generalist’ practice says, is ‘maintaining both architectural quality and client service in an incredibly aggressive fee tendering environment’. In recent months it has been shortlisted for jobs by Brent Council and Coventry Council and is looking for more joint ventures to ‘increase its geographic base’.
