AJ120 #=71: Haworth Tompkins

  • Comment

33 employed architects, 30% female architects, new entry

New to the AJ120 this year, Haworth Tompkins had an extraordinary 2014 with the RIBA Stirling Prize win for the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool and a string of more than 30 other awards. With this raised profile, the practice is expanding into new sectors, attracting additional staff and seeking opportunities abroad. Clients include many of the UK’s leading cultural institutions, as well as urban developers and housing providers, and the practice’s current challenge is to maintain quality as the scale of projects expands. The practice says of its ethos, ‘Keep learning. Work with the best people, listen hard, spend enough time to understand properly and design effective, beautiful and humane buildings. Put sustainability and social purpose at the heart of our output.’
