Motorways and sustainability are not natural bedfellows, unless of course you are talking about AFLS+P’s Gloucester Services station. The product of a £35 million joint venture between a local charity and Westmorland, its local stone and timber construction scored a BREEAM Excellent rating. Gloucester services is a standout project for the 107-strong Manchester-based practice. Healthcare remains its strongest suit. AFLS+P won planning for a new £22 million hospital in Stratford-upon-Avon and completed a new facility in Leighton, which houses eight state-of-the-art operating theatres. The practice grew its work in residential, hotel and leisure. However, this was not enough to prevent AFLS+P dropping 13 places in the AJ120.
