40 employed architects, 23% female architects, =61st position in 2014
DLA Architecture, which has approximately two thirds of its work in the private sector, was especially pleased in 2014 to achieve detailed planning consent for a major project in its home city of Leeds (it also has offices in London and Manchester). The project is the £52 million Central Square development, an 11-storey office scheme for Royd Properties which is now on site. In addition to offices, the practice works in the retail, education, residential, hotel and leisure, industrial, masterplanning and urban design and sports sectors. Its public-sector work encompasses schools, colleges, universities and healthcare. Looking to the future, the practice sees its greatest challenge as balancing reduced fee levels against the desire to remunerate its staff adequately.
