AJ120 #48: Arup Associates

  • Comment

46 employed architects, 37% female architects, new entry

Arup Associates, a new entry in the rankings this year, welcomed the arrival of long-term Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios chief Jo Wright at the start of 2015, which coincided with a move to give the architects more autonomy from the Arup mothership. As Wright says: ‘After significant growth, we’ve redrawn the boundaries between disciplines and for the first time Arup has an architectural group – albeit one closely aligned with a wealth of engineering and other expertise.’ The 124-strong unit has had a ‘highly successful year’, with a portfolio that includes the Khalifa Tennis Centre and masterplan in Doha and revamp of the listed 1 Finsbury Square in London’s Broadgate. Arup has also diversified into ‘experiential consulting’ through virtual reality technology.
