58 employed architects, 29% female architects, =37th position in 2014
Last year’s winner of the Building of the Year award, JM Architects has achieved an enviable equilibrium with each of its offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and London in the black. A key piece in the jigsaw last year was a speculative office, the £3.8 million Albus, for Clyde Gateway in Glasgow. Over the next year, the practice says it will continue to build a consistent breadth of design skills across all sectors: commercial, education, health, residential and leisure. ‘We have key strengths in particular, but for some time they have been inconsistent across the country,’ says managing director Brian Thomson, who adds that each office now covers all sectors. According to Thomson, this will present particular opportunities for the London and Manchester offices.
