Ken Shuttleworth’s practice grew by 20 per cent in 2014, moving into new offices in a car park and expanding its international operation by opening a new office in Sydney. Well known for its flat leadership structure and employee ownership business model, Make was once again nominated in the AJ120 Employer of the Year category. The Fitzrovia-based firm completed several notable projects in 2014, including Dunbar Place, a new residential tower in Hong Kong; and HSBC Quai des Bergues, a new front office in Geneva for the global bank. It also saw the topping-out of its enormous London office scheme at 5 Broadgate. Make consciously avoids an aesthetic ‘look’ and describes its design ethos as simply to ‘design the best buildings, places and spaces in the world’.
