25 employed architects, 28% female architects, new entry
Set up by an ambitious core of former HKR staff, the AJ120 newcomer has become an increasingly major player, particularly in the emerging PRS market. In the five years since the firm’s Manchester office was set up, staff numbers have jumped from eight to 32, while the London studio – which opened a year later – has ballooned from just one to 25 employees. With plans to add around another eight people over the coming 12 months, the firm could easily make next year’s top 100. As a result of this growth, founding director David King-Smith says retaining and finding the right staff have become two of its ‘key priorities’. The company has already pumped cash into its offices spaces in Manchester and London to create ‘the most productive environment in which the practice will thrive’.
