Winner: The Olympic Delivery Authority - Nominated by the AJ100 practices, Client of the Year is awarded to an architectural client that has made the greatest contribution to UK architecture over the year
With so many worthy contenders, the race for the 2012 AJ100 Client of the Year accolade culminated in a photo finish and was ultimately awarded to that rare butterfly, the Olympic Delivery Authority.
This year was always make or break for an organisation that has been doggedly pursuing timely completion and cost certainty since its inception six years ago: 2012 was its very raison d’etre.
But what the ODA has pursued above all else is architectural quality, within the framework of improvements to the long-term future of the communities that will host the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and environmentally intelligent design: see Hopkins Architects’ Velodrome, Zaha Hadid’s Aquatics Centre, Populous’s Olympic Stadium and Wilkinson Eyre’s Basketball Arena.
The ODA can justly be proud of the architectural trophies that are now clamouring for our attention on the imaginatively landscaped Olympic Park.
