AJ exclusive: Shedkm replaces Foster on Croydon job

  • Comment

Shedkm has been picked to replace Foster and Partners on East Croydon’s £500 million Ruskin Square development

The London and Liverpool-based studio was chosen from a four-strong shortlist by developers Stanhope and Schroders to design the first, speculative office building for the 3.7 hectare town centre plot.

Foster and Partners won planning permission for the scheme’s masterplan from Croydon Council in July and was widely expected to design around 93,000m² of pre-let office space.

The decision to shortlist fresh architects for the job came after the project received £4 million in funding from the local enterprise partnership Coast to Capital. A new Studio Egret West and Hawkins\Brown designed railway bridge connecting to the site is also expected to complete in November 2013.

Allford Hall Monaghan Morris – which has designed 550 apartments for the scheme – will continue to work on the masterplan’s residential element.

Muf Architecture/Art has created a meanwhile use for the land (pictured), next to East Croydon station.
