AIA looks to London

The American Institute of Architects' uk Chapter has given its design award jointly this year to Marks Barfield Architects' now operational ba London Eye (see page 8) and to Cartwright Pickard Architects' Murray Grove Housing in Hackney, east London (pictured below and aj 25.11.99). James Pickard said he was delighted at the news, saying that the project had 'blazed a trail', showing housebuilders they could do things differently. The 30 flats were built for just over £2 million in eight months for client the Peabody Trust, for whom the practice is doing two more projects.
