[Registration must be completed by 16 April] A single-stage ideas competition has been launched for a new National Museum of Afghanistan offering a £31,880 ($50,000) top prize

Backed by the Afghan Ministry of Information and Culture and the US government, the contest seeks design proposals for an architectural master plan and detailed building design for the site.

The winner could be invited to design the building or asked partner with other companies to produce the documents necessary for planning.

The competition jury features Minister of Information and Culture Sayed Makhdoom Raheen; architects Dinah Casson, William Remsen, Susanne Annen and Jolyon Leslie; structural engineer Toby Allen and environmental engineer Klaus Bode.

The top prize is £31,880 ($50,000), the second prize £19,140 ($30,000) and the third prize £12,760 ($20,000). In addition, three Honorable Mentions with no cash prize are to be awarded.

Applicants must complete a PQQ prior to taking part in the ideas competition.

The competition is organised by Kabul-based S.E.E. office for architecture and design.
