AEW wins £500K over unpaid Liverpool museum fees

AEW Architects has been awarded £500,000 following a dispute with the Museum of Liverpool over unpaid fees on its £72 million waterfront project

An adjudication panel ruled that client National Museums Liverpool (NML) must pay the cash sum to the architects within the next 14 days.

Manchester-firm AEW in September 2007 took over from Dutch practice 3XN on the landmark project, which was subject to continuing alterations by the client.

AEW invoiced for extra work which resulted from the alterations because it felt the services went beyond the ‘fixed price’ terms of its appointment.

A spokesman for National Museums Liverpool said: ‘We are disappointed with the adjudicator’s decision and are taking the matter further with our lawyers.’

‘We want the very best for this museum and it is right for us to control costs tightly. It is not unreasonable to expect our contractors and consultants to do the same.’

This one cock-up after another some-one should be sacked for this waste of public funds while care homes in Liverpool are having to close because of lack of funds.
