Tickets are available for a fundraising event to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Architects Benevolent Society (ABS). The black tie event will be held on 30 November at Inigo Jones' Banqueting House in Whitehall. The ABS aims to reconstruct the kind of soiree that Prince Albert might have put on for Queen Victoria before the 1851 exhibition, and has planned an evening of entertainment which includes a champagne reception, dinner in the Grand Hall, and a concert of music and spoken narrative performed by the Royal College of Music. The society's patron, Princess Margaret, will be attending the event. Individual places cost £125, while tables of eight,10 or 12 are available for £1,000, £1,250 or £1,500 respectively. For more information contact the ABS on 020 7580 2823.
The RIBA and the ABS have set up a joint working group to reappraise the relationship between the two organisations.
The group will be chaired by RIBA past president David Rock, who is also vice-president of the ABS.Its first task will be to look at the way other professional institutions inter-relate with their respective benevolent charities.
