101 Finsbury Pavement

  • Comment

The scenario at 101 Finsbury Pavement was similar. The building was designed by SKS Architects and constructed in the early 1980s.A series offloors up to and including the fourth-floor level had become vacant (5,415m 2floor space) and here too the owners took the opportunity to refurbish.

The existing entrance was tired, obscure and confusing, having two sets ofentrance doors, inadequate signage and gloomy fin-ishes.Now it incorporates a double-height volume, fitted with full-height glazing to provide a bright new focus to No 101.A large 6m high, richly veined Portoro marble panel announces the new entrance through automatic sliding doors set within a bronze sub-frame.Again white plaster and limestone flooring are the new materials, and an upper balcony is framed with limestone architraves;the reception desk is in limestone, stainless steel and oak.European oak doors separate the reception areas from the offices.Tenants are listed on a large enamelbacked glass panel with bronze lettering.

offices were fitted with 100mm void floors and air conditioning. The internal metal window frames were resprayed white and the perimeter relined with plaster board. In the lift lobbies, limestone flooring and wall panelling detailed with stainless steel and bronze inlays replace the former gloomy palette ofmaterials.
