The curmudgeonly Christopher Maguire (aj 15.1.98) should not ignore the fact that revised access arrangements for houses will improve the lot of those who have to get prams and pushchairs into, and out of, houses. As a parent I would have found level access to dwellings a great boom. As for the volume builders, they should accept the challenge and design better houses. Is that too much to ask?
