New Practices #54: Warren Rosing Architects

  • Comment

The latest in a series of practice profiles looking at architects who have recently decided to go it alone, either through choice or redundancy

Warren Rosing Architects, London, SW4

Founded: early 2009

Main people:  Warren Rosing and Agata Perepeczo

Where have you come from? Warren was a director at Darling Associates having previously worked as a project architect at Hamiltons

What work do you have and what kind of projects are you looking for? We have just completed the extension and remodelling of a large family house in East Molesey (pictured) which included linking a Georgian house with a 1970s annex to make a large modern home. Also recently finished is the remodelling of a dated flat in a listed building in South Kensington to create a contemporary bachelor flat. We’re extending and remodelling a large house backing onto Wandsworth Common which includes a large basement extension and working on a number of smaller flat refurbishments throughout inner London.

What are your ambitions? We have doubled in size - from one to two - and things seem to be going well. We hope to grow steadily based on agreed work but never want to lose that personal touch and high levels of service we always aim for. We would also like to enter a few competitions to exercise some design flair and get our name out there. Although for now we want to concentrate on producing well considered quality residential architecture and interiors.

How optimistic are you as a start-up practice? We are quietly confident and have been very lucky to have a relatively constant flow of work but as always understand that the tough economic times mean that things can change very quickly.

To others starting up I’d say you have to put in a lot of hard work and need a bit of luck too. Seek advice from people who have done it before and try and stay out of debt.  You will be surprised where the work comes from and even your best laid plans will alter.
