The AJ has discovered that another wave of practices has picked up projects as part of the £32 billion High Speed 2 (HS2) link between London and Birmingham

Among them are Wilkinson Eyre, which will design a new rail bridge at Curzon Street Station in central Birmingham (pictured), and Arup Associates, which has won the Washwood Heath Rolling Stock Maintenance Depot project, as well as a ‘people mover’ scheme linking the city’s new Interchange Station to the NEC and airport.
Both practices are working with engineer Arup on the West Midlands Metropolitan package, which covers around 22 kilometres of the route.
Wilkinson Eyre has also secured work with Atkins on design contracts covering a 91-kilometre stretch through Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire, which includes the Colne Valley viaduct and the Chilterns ‘green’ tunnelling.
Last week it was confirmed that Weston Williamson had been appointed to design a 14-platform station at Old Oak Common in west London. Capable of handling up to 250,000 passengers a day, the station will be a key hub on the route and in the wider area, where it will also serve as an interchange for Heathrow Express, Crossrail and Great Western trains.
Earlier this year, Grimshaw landed the prize project to redevelop Euston Station, which will become the London terminus for the new rail service.
Under the £10 million contract, the practice will work with Arup on the station’s transformation. The schemes form part of a hybrid bill planned to be deposited with Parliament by the end of 2013.
