Caseyfierro Architects has drawn up a ‘macroplan’ for the redevelopment of Poplar in east London
The London-based practice was initially approached by the Poplar Housing and Regeneration Community Association (HARCA) - which owns 34 per cent of all the land in the Poplar district - to look at its sites alone.
However, the project grew to become a ‘reshaping vision’ for a huge 98ha area - an area ‘equal to the area of the 2012 Olympic development site to the north’.
According to a practice the plan ‘includes the refurbishment of existing homes to Decent Homes Plus standard and the redevelopment
of the worst performing buildings’. It also proposes ‘the delivery of new homes, both affordable and market for sale, introducing new shops and community facilities, health centres and schools [and] the delivery of a network of improved open space, and identifies new infrastructure to better connect places.’

The area described in ‘Reshaping Poplar’ is located within the east end of London. The area is uniquely located in a place of potential transformation in London, and has the benefit of been informed by wider aspirations such as the expansion of Canary Wharf to the south and the new centre of Stratford post 2012 to the north.
Within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets ‘Reshaping Poplar’ is located on the eastern most boundary bordering the geographical barrier of the Lower River Lea. The area of ‘Reshaping’ is equal to the area of the 2012 Olympic development site to the north.
