A trawl through Hellman’s archives, in which we uncover gems that are as relevant now as they were then
A report by Paul Morrell, former government chief construction advisor, urges collaboration by industry bodies like the RIBA if they are to remain relevant. He warns that, otherwise, they might be obsolete in 10 years as contractors take total control. Among a list of suggested co-operations, including education and climate change, is a code of ethics, entirely absent from the industry at present. This AJ cartoon from June 1981 marks a similar move for architects to be business-orientated. It was Owen Luder’s first term as RIBA president.
