Hellman files #166

  • Comment

A trawl through Hellman’s archives, in which we uncover gems that are as relevant now as they were then

This AJ cartoon was the first in a How To series in 1990. Since then Neo-classicism, derided by Modernists, has become a semi-legitimate style for new buildings, though Robert Adam would disagree. He accuses the archi-establishment of a conspiracy to keep him and others from winning awards and competitions. He might also cite Reading planners who have rejected his three Neo-classical tower blocks as ‘alien and confusing’ - which surely applies to most high rise. What next? A Classical space station? A Gothic prefab?
