Hawkes wins planning for Cotswolds eco-scheme

Hawkes Architecture has won planning for a sustainable mixed use scheme set in a water park in the Cotswolds

The Kent-based practice has drawn up plans for 63 apartments and 77 houses, six of which will be built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 6, nestled around a series of lakes.

Locally sourced Cotswold stone and locally grown timber will be used for the project which also includes a leisure centre.

This centre will act as an ‘energy hub’, generating renewable energy for the scheme through photovoltaics, biomass and a ground source heat pump.

Described as a ‘family of buildings’, varying in orientation, the houses have lakeside views.

The practice added: ‘The buildings specifically respond to the varying conditions of orientation and lakeside views around the lake whilst creating a varied street scene and building mass.

‘Houses which look south across a lake have a different character when compared to houses with a north facing view of a lake.’
