Documenting the architecture of the Calais Jungle

  • Comment

These photographs of the Calais Jungle are on show as part of the V&A’s debut show at the Venice Biennale

The pictures were taken by Eddie Blake of Sam Jacob Studio during a recent visit with translator and journalist Dania Akkad to the migrant encampment in France.

A selection of his images are exhibited as part of the A World of Fragile Parts exhibition at the Applied Arts Pavilion of the Venice Biennale alongside Sam Jacob Studio’s piece Dar Abu Said’ (The House of Abu Said).

The shelter was also scanned to be replicated for the Venice show. The exhibition explores the threats facing the preservation of global heritage sites and how the production of copies aids the preservation of cultural artefacts.
