The Tainan City Government in Taiwan has launched an international competition for a new £30 million library

The project will replace the city’s existing municipal library on Gongyuan North Road (pictured) with a new 35,000m² facility on the former site of the Yongkang Artillery School.

The new library is expected to host 600,000 books and 1,000 magazines and feature storage space for an additional 400,000 volumes.

The winner will receive the design commission and a £7,000 silver prize and £3,000 are also available.

The deadline for submissions is 21 January.
