Consulting services are being sought for the restoration of the north-west tower and the renaissance wing of the listed Château de Valençay
The 18th century château was built by the d’Estampes family before coming into the ownership of the notorious Scottish Banker John Law. Law was appointed controller general of finances for France by Louis XV – it was Law who was responsible for the wildly speculative Mississippi Bubble which brought financial chaos to Fance. His issuing of paper-money resulted in the Banque Royale having to admit that the amount of metal coinage held by the bank did not equal the number of bank notes issued –
the bank stopped payment on the notes when there was a mass attempt to convert the notes. Law fled to Belgium and Napoleon ordered the Château to be taken over by his Foreign Minister Talleyrand.
The application deadline is 5pm on by 26 October and the application language is French.
