The RIBA has launched an open call for architects to deliver a series of £5,000 shop window installations in Regent Street, west London
Open only to RIBA chartered practices and members in the capital, the contest will select around 15 architects to work with retailers to transform their store fronts on the historic shopping street.
Now in its seventh year, the project for the Regent Street Association concludes with the winning team’s designs being installed between 5 and 25 September.
According to the brief: ‘The retailers fund the materials, production and installation of the windows; they are asked to commit a minimum budget of £5,000. Further to an initial consultation with each retailer, RIBA and Regent Street Association match the retailers with an architecture practice.
‘The retailer sets the maximum budget and the architect works to design something that can be realised within this constraint. The architect works closely with the retailer to create a spatial and design-led installation which represents and works with the fashion brand.’
Applicants must submit a ten-page portfolio showing previous installation based projects, and temporary structures along with a short expression of interest statement. Last year’s 13 winners included EPR Architects, Coppin Dockray, Citizens Design Bureau, and Conran and Partners.
Project installation will take place overnight from 6pm on 4 September. The deadline for applications is 13 May.
